Scotch Orchard Ethos and Values
Belonging; Believing; Learning; Achieving
At Scotch Orchard we want our pupils to
- Belong: ‘to be a member of our school community’; and develop a feeling of belonging – ‘the feeling of security and support when there is a sense of acceptance, inclusion, and identity for a member of a certain group [Scotch Orchard Primary School]’
- Believe: ‘to think that something is true, correct, or real’; and develop their self-belief – ‘a person feeling sure of their ability to complete tasks and to achieve their goals’
- Learn: ‘gain or acquire knowledge of, or skill in (something), by study, experience, or being taught’
- Achieve: ‘successfully bring about or reach (a desired objective or result) by effort, skill, or courage’
At Scotch Orchard, we:
- Inspire children to develop enquiring, critical and imaginative minds
- Stimulate the desire to learn together and increase each child’s aspirations of what they may achieve
- Provide a purposeful education suited to the needs of all the pupils within a happy and productive learning environment
- Encourage individual achievement to the highest level
- Help pupils to understand the world in which they live from all perspectives: national, international and within their own community
- Encourage good relationships, respect, tolerance and understanding of others
- Embrace individuality and promote collaborative learning in a safe and supportive setting
- Foster the attitude that learning is fun
For each child to become a confident participant in society, we endeavour:
- To treat each other the way we would like to be treated;
- To have self-respect, self-esteem and a pride in our personal appearance;
- To communicate co-operatively and effectively with each other – child to child, child to adult, adult to adult and adult to child
- To develop the skill of self discipline;
- To feel happy and secure in the school environment;
- To appreciate and care for our local environment;
- To show courtesy and respect for each other.
